Good customer service…at the County Government Office? February 26, 2007

I had a great experience today and it literally blew me away. People who work at County/Governmental offices are notoriously known for bad customer service. I mean, I don’t blame them. They sit in cubicles all day and deal with people who give them attitude. I would hate my job, too.

We went today to our county government office to declare domicile and to apply for homestead exemption. We put enough quarters in the parking meter for almost 2 hours. We were there MAYBE 30 minutes. 30 MINUTES?!

Everyone we talked to, from the security desk to the busy offices, was nice to us and they were helpful. We needed that. We didn’t know what we were doing and we were 2 days from the deadline. They didn’t have to be nice to us. They didn’t have to help. But, they did and we successfully did what we came to do in a short amount of time.

We were both floored as we walked the busy streets to the parking garage. I’ve never done anything with that much success and good customer service…well, maybe I have, but I didn’t expect it!

Beach advertising February 15, 2007

OK….this is amazing. Like, really amazing.

You can advertise in the sand! How cool would that be? The only drawback (and kind of a big one) is that once people get there and start walking on the sand…your beautiful logo is gone. I still think it’s a cool idea. You’re not only advertising your company/church/whatever, but you’re telling people not to litter. Advertising for a good cause! Go here for more info and pics.

*edit: I emailed the people at Beach’n Billboard and asked if they did this in Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Here’s our correspondence:

–I’m located in Pembroke Pines, FL. Do you guys do this in Miami or Fort Lauderdale? This is something we would think about doing. I love the idea!

–Hi Jenn, Thank you for your words of support! Unfortunately we’re only available at this time in NJ. Can we interest you in a NJ beach for this summer?
 
–Thanks for replying! Unfortunately, advertising in NJ would do nothing for us! We’re a local church in the Fort Lauderdale area. You should really think about coming to Miami…I think a lot of companies would do this sort of thing!

–We tried, miles of red tape with the municipalities. Too much bureaucracy…Pray for us please! )

Haha, I loved the “pray for us” plug. That is a shame. Maybe one day we can be cool like NJ.

Finally legal! February 10, 2007

I have a confession. We’ve been “borrowing” internet from a couple of neighbors since we’ve lived in our condo. I’ve always felt bad about it…I’m not gonna lie. I knew it was wrong, but it was there, you know?

However…Joel finally got us our own cable internet, so I no longer feel guilty. We are slowly working towards getting more stuff. It’s taken us this long to get internet. Next is a phone line. Next is digital cable and DVR. After that, Joel wants the new Apple TV. Which also means we will be getting an iMac.

I’m married to the tech director…what do you expect?

Anna Nicole Smith dead February 8, 2007

So, this is very strange. Anna Nicole Smith was here right in my backyard, so to speak, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino this week. She collapsed this afternoon and died a couple hours later. Read more here.

Her daughter is only 5 months old…how sad. My prayers go out to her family.

Baby Hughes! February 7, 2007

Congrats to my dear friends Chris & Emily Hughes! They had their second child today! Mary Hannah Hughes was born at 8:00 a.m. at Memorial West. She weighs 7lbs, 9oz! Emily is recovering and both she & Mary Hannah are doing great!! I can’t wait to see her!

I will be moving into this office on Thursday!! It’s actually a closet, but it’s a large closet! I’m just happy to be getting anything!
