Just my opinion… February 23, 2008

There has been a lot of buzz about this church in Tampa doing a sex series. If you haven’t heard about it, just Google “30 day sex challenge” and you will find hundreds of articles about it. It’s getting national attention and many people are blogging with their opinions.

I thought I would share mine.

I am all about doing whatever it takes to bring the rate of divorce among Christians way down. I think the 30 day sex idea is good and it will probably help save a lot of marriages. But I can just tell that it was thought up by a man because I mean, duh, what man doesn’t want to have sex everyday? I don’t think I’d be off target if I said that the majority of women would be OK if they never had sex. Other things like affection and conversation are way important to us (at least for me, they are). Am I right ladies??

Personally I think having sex every day for 30 days a little overkill. I think it’s all about making the time for it and if you have to, plan it. At least, that’s what I’ve learned in the 2 1/2 years I’ve been married.

Whether you are married or single, I would definitely recommend going through the questionnaire they offer on their website. Joel and I sat down together and went through it for about an hour and a half. It was wonderful. I finally got to get some stuff off my chest that I’ve been wanting to say but didn’t know exactly how. He also got to say what he wanted. It might’ve been the best conversation we had in weeks. You find out what your emotional needs are and how your spouse can meet them. Go do it! They also offer a married/single guide for the 30 days. Each day asks a question and you journal about it. We’re going to do that, too.

As for whether we’re gonna do the challenge…well, that’s none of your business! :)

I was going back and forth on whether I should post something about this, but I decided I’m just gonna go for it. If it offends you, I am deeply sorry but I think it’s something the church should talk more about. I don’t always agree with the method or the marketing necessarily but I do agree with saving more marriages, so there ya go.

My ‘fresh’ delivery today October 16, 2007

/random-006-1.jpg /random-007-1.jpg

I was surprised when, after a long day of meetings, I went back to my office and found a box on my desk. The box had “fresh produce” stamped on the side. I was confused. Then I remembered that Shauna said she was going to send me her book! When I opened it up, the above pictures are what I found. How creative is that?! Now I’m not gonna lie…the tangerines don’t look too edible, but just the fact that when I opened the box, I immediately smelled citrus was so cool. What a refreshing idea. The tangerines have shaunaniequist.com stickers on them. There is an air freshener for your car with the book information on it. I love the whole thing.

Thanks again Shauna!! :)

Go get the book…I’m reading it tonight.

p.s. that’s my couch, handed down to me from my grandma (i’m not a country blue person)…i’m thinking of buying a new one at the brand spanking new Ikea :)

Changing the world October 4, 2007

This is a great quote I found from this blog earlier in the week. Let it really sink in, it might change the way you do everything.

Don’t ever settle for getting someone’s attention. Channel attention into action if you want to change the world.

We are joining some of the other churches across the country and doing an “Office”-esque series. Except we’re calling it “On the Clock”. It’s going to be a fun study on office life and how to deal with it. We’ve got a website up allowing anyone and everyone to write down their office stories. Go on, you know you have a story. It’s completely anonymous, of course. Share away!

So, apparently, we don’t ’suck’ May 7, 2007

Some cool things have been happening in the blogosphere in regards to our church! A couple of weeks ago, Monday Morning Insight caught wind of our 7 Nights of Worship from something Elmer Towns wrote. That was the first excitement.

Today, ChurchMarketingSucks.com wrote about us. This is so exciting for us. As we have been telling people our story and what’s going on, the word has spread. We are truly pioneers right now just trying to do something new and reach more people in our community.

God has truly blessed us and is continuing to shock us with the amazing things He has done through starting 7 Nights of Worship.

Check out our website for more information or leave a comment and I will answer any questions you might have!

Invite me to church May 1, 2007

Filed under: Church, Marketing — jenncollins @ 3:30 pm

Cory Miller over at ChurchCommunicationsPro.com blogged about a campaign happening around where he lives called InviteChurch.com. I clicked on the link to their website. It’s a very simple site…just put your zip code in and you can find a church within the radius of where you live.

Well, I put the zip code where my husband and I live and a Google search came up and showed me the “churches” in my area code. The first was a Jewish Temple. The second was a Mormon church and the third was a drive-thru wedding chapel that is in the same plaza as the Publix that I shop at. Yes, a drive-thru wedding chapel. How romantic. It’s been there since high school…I’ve always wanted to drive-thru and see what happens.

Then I put in the area code of our church next and these were the top three: an evangelical church, a Jehovah’s Witness temple and a Catholic church. Our church? Way down the list…and not even our website…a yellow pages site just giving our church name, address, etc.

I’m not sure about this campaign. I’m not sure I would send people to that website.

You see, when you put your zip code in, it immediately does a search in Google for “church your zip” and any place of worship will show up in the search results. I appreciate the sentiment of this site and what they are trying to do, but I’m just not sure it’s working the way it was intended. Am I being too cynical?

Thoughts?
