Real life experiences after college

Me & John :) January 30, 2007

The subject might have confused some of you. My husband’s name is Joel, not John. However, on Friday night I spent some time with John…John Mayer, that is! My friend Carla and I were mosying up to the upper level of the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami when we approached by a woman. She asked us if we were John Mayer fans, how we got the tickets, how we know each other, etc. Lots of small talk. We had no idea who she was or why she was asking us all these questions. Then she said “I work for John”. I totally didn’t believe her. Carla was all “Really???” She took Carla’s ticket out of her hand and looked at the seats. She said, “I don’t like these seats.” She then asked us if we believed in karma (which we don’t) and we said “Sure” (which means, not really, but we’ll go with it..). She went on about karma for a while and asked us if we thought good things should be happening to us. We said yes (who doesn’t??). Then she took our tickets and gave us FRONT ROW CENTER seats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We screamed…I told her to shut-up (not literally…)…we hugged…and then we called our husbands and rubbed it in (they were at the concert, too…in OK seats, but  not great!). We found our way to the front row and discovered that many other girls had the same thing happen to them! It was great…by far the best concert I’ve ever been to. John was amazing. He looked at me several times….I was right in front of him!!!!!!

OK, so below is a video I took of him singing “In Repair”. Enjoy! 🙂

Resolutions January 24, 2007

I never do this…in fact, I hate New Years’ resolutions. Everyone who does them rarely if ever keeps them (including me!). However, I did make some unofficial resolutions this year, but I’m not calling them resolutions. Let’s call them goals or “things I’d like to accomplish”…

1. Play tennis. Joel got us tennis rackets and tennis balls for Christmas. He is my new coach! We’ve played a handful of times already and I am really enjoying it! It’s a great aerobic workout and it’s challenging, which I love. I’ve tried running or walking really fast, but I get so bored that I never stick with it. This, I think will stick. I’m a Maria Sharapova in training 🙂

2. Join First Place. What is First Place, you ask? Well, it’s a weight loss plan, but let’s not call it that. It’s really about making God ‘first place’ in your life…everything else, like losing weight, falls into place at that point. I follow the official food pyramid daily (it’s so hard to get those veggies in!) and eat up to 1400 calories on a daily basis. This week we had our second meeting and I lost 2.25  pounds! I’m on the road baby!

3. Old habits can die hard. This includes my horrible eating habits (which I am working on) and my spiritual habits. I am now waking up 30 minutes earlier to start my day healthier, which means eating a balanced breakfast. I’m also trying to get my spiritual life more healthy. So I do a Bible study in the morning and that gets me set and focused for the rest of my day. It’s really been such a blessing to spend that extra time with God every morning. I sit on my balcony, read, and eat. It’s wonderful!

I think that’s about it, but that’s pretty good for me! It’s been a great start to the year so far and I look forward to what else God will do in my life in 2007! 🙂

Feeling quizzical January 18, 2007

Here’s a fun quiz that I just took. I’ve been told that sometimes I sound Southern (mainly when I’m in the South) and sometimes I sound “Northern” (but I don’t think so…).

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you’re a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.
