I’ve been tagged… March 20, 2008

Wow! I’ve never been tagged before! Thanks Jen!

  1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
  2. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
  3. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

What I was doing 10 years ago:

  • I was 14 and in 8th grade and dying to be in high school!
  • Dating Andrew Strickland (and we are incredible friends now!)
  • Ignoring the boys in our Sunday school class (I only wanted to go out with the older guys)
  • I got a puppy! Our little Toby is still with us today!
  • Surviving middle school

Five things on my to-do list today:

  • Finish work (as you can tell, I am VERY busy today) 😉
  • Blog about something interesting
  • Eat at my parents’ for dinner
  • Do laundry
  • Clean the dishes/kitchen – wow all of those sound very intriguing…don’t you want to be me??

Snacks I enjoy:

  • 100 calorie snack packs…I’m loving the Cheetos kind, but I’ll eat any of them.
  • Chips and salsa from Chili’s – me too Jen! My fave
  • Pretzels
  • Popcorn
  • Chocolate

Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

  • Sell our condo and buy a house
  • Pay off my husband’s school loans
  • Pay off debt
  • Give to church & Sheridan House
  • Quit work and travel

Five of my bad habits:

  • Biting my nails
  • Forgetfulness
  • Procrastinating doing the laundry
  • Eating more when I’m already full
  • Um I can’t think of another one

Five places I have lived:

  • North Miami Beach, FL (where I was born)
  • Davie, FL (where I currently live)
  • Birmingham, AL (for college)
  • Lexington, KY (that was a short blip after we got married)
  • Back in Davie, FL

Five jobs I’ve had:

  • Pizza Hut (cashier & hostess…hated it)
  • Dillard’s Department Store (I folded clothes all day and goofed off with all my friends who worked there)
  • Center for Reclaiming America (internship in college, organization no longer exists)
  • Hands On Originals (boring job but had a ton of fun!)
  • Oasis Church (my current “real life” job that I love!)

Five (six, actually) people I want to know more about (a nice way of saying TAG):

  • Laura (asia & chocolate)
  • Beca
  • Erin Dunne
  • GUY MELTON!!
  • Amber Cox

I read a lot of posts about people’s opinions on the American Idol contestants. My question is: does anyone actually call and vote???

The most popular name in the 80s March 5, 2008

I was born in the early 80s (1983 to be exact) and apparently my Mom must not have been aware that every Mother of the 80s named their daughter Jennifer. It’s a shame they didn’t have internet back then. She could’ve easily found out that the number 1 most popular girl name in 1983 was Jennifer (my middle name is also on the list).

Growing up, I could never be just “Jennifer”. I had to be “Jennifer R” or “JR” and later, our next-door neighbors named me “Jenn”. Using Jenn is easier for me because it sets me apart from the other Jennifers who spell their name with one “n”. Or those others who ended up calling themselves Jenny or Jenna.

Can I get some agreement on this? I know some of the other names on that list can agree…Jessica, Melissa, Ashley, Amanda, Sarah, Stephanie…(I have at least one friend with every name on that list, by the way!).

I’ve always wanted a more “unique” name. Hopefully I can help my own kids out with that.

So, tell me. What’s your name? Do you share it with lots of people? Tell me your story.

I dropped my camera… February 28, 2008

Filed under: Random — jenncollins @ 9:55 am

So I dropped my camera at our all staff meeting earlier in the month when we went to Ikea. I need a new one. The one I had was decent but it was about 2 years old. It was one of those Kodak EasyShare cameras. I never used the “EasyShare” feature. Anyone want to recommend a good and relatively cheap digital camera? Nothin’ fancy…just something I can fit into a purse to carry around w/ me. Thanks!

Just my opinion… February 23, 2008

30day_webnew.jpg

There has been a lot of buzz about this church in Tampa doing a sex series. If you haven’t heard about it, just Google “30 day sex challenge” and you will find hundreds of articles about it. It’s getting national attention and many people are blogging with their opinions.

I thought I would share mine.

I am all about doing whatever it takes to bring the rate of divorce among Christians way down. I think the 30 day sex idea is good and it will probably help save a lot of marriages. But I can just tell that it was thought up by a man because I mean, duh, what man doesn’t want to have sex everyday? I don’t think I’d be off target if I said that the majority of women would be OK if they never had sex. Other things like affection and conversation are way important to us (at least for me, they are). Am I right ladies??

Personally I think having sex every day for 30 days a little overkill. I think it’s all about making the time for it and if you have to, plan it. At least, that’s what I’ve learned in the 2 1/2 years I’ve been married.

Whether you are married or single, I would definitely recommend going through the questionnaire they offer on their website. Joel and I sat down together and went through it for about an hour and a half. It was wonderful. I finally got to get some stuff off my chest that I’ve been wanting to say but didn’t know exactly how. He also got to say what he wanted. It might’ve been the best conversation we had in weeks. You find out what your emotional needs are and how your spouse can meet them. Go do it! They also offer a married/single guide for the 30 days. Each day asks a question and you journal about it. We’re going to do that, too.

As for whether we’re gonna do the challenge…well, that’s none of your business! 🙂

I was going back and forth on whether I should post something about this, but I decided I’m just gonna go for it. If it offends you, I am deeply sorry but I think it’s something the church should talk more about. I don’t always agree with the method or the marketing necessarily but I do agree with saving more marriages, so there ya go.

Any Chuck Norris fans? February 22, 2008

I have to admit that I am a part of the “Chuck Norris is cool” generation, but I honestly don’t understand it. I don’t see the humor. Can someone explain it to me?

Anyway, I did appreciate this…and maybe you will too.

Go to Google and type in “find Chuck Norris” then click on “I’m Feeling Lucky” and read the page! It’s hilarious!

OK kids so today started my third week of spinning and eating healthy and so far I have lost 4 pounds! Not amazing, but still good. I have already seen a difference.

I found this video and ohmigosh it’s hilarious. It’s 3 1/2 minutes but it’s so worth it. Check it out.

p.s. spinning is not that lame. 😉

I love Florida January 20, 2008

Haha this map cracks me up. South FL actually felt cold(er) temps today. It’s been in the 60s all day! That’s cold for us Floridians! Meanwhile people are experiencing temps below zero. I can’t even fathom what that feels like.

I’m glad I live in paradise!! — that was for you, Guy!

“Counseling makes me sick!” January 17, 2008

james.jpgWe’re all laughing here at the office because one of our Pastors, James Brown was counseling someone this morning and had to run out of his office quickly to the bathroom because he realized he was about to be “sick” all over this poor woman!! He had said he was feeling kind of achy and felt like he had a migraine earlier this morning.

Luckily he made it but had to end the session early and he barely made it to the bathroom again! I’m sure the woman was ready to get outta here!

We’re all telling him to go home…we don’t need those germs around. He claims he feels better now and his joke now is “Boy, I don’t know about you, but counseling makes me sick!” (For those who don’t know James, he is the biggest practical joker I have ever met…he rarely has a serious conversation!)
